Hearings begin for attorney general nominee
Hello! I'm Kristin Volk on this Wednesday, October 17, 2007 with a UPI headline update. President Bush's nominee for attorney general is expected to face tough questioning as his confirmation hearings begin today. Michael Mukasey will reportedly be asked about hot-button issues like no-warrant surveillance and his views on the use of torture. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Senator Patrick Leahy says he expects Mukasey to be confirmed. That's after Leahy met with the nominee yesterday. Turkey's parliament is predicted to approve military action against Kurdish separatists in Iraq today. That's despite international calls to avert the crisis.
